img_7220In the last year or two, there has been a craze going on in the Marvel Comics Universe with the character of Gwen Stacy and what Marvel has done to her. Marvel created Spider-Gwen (Edge of Spider-Verse #2 September 2014) which is one of my favorite characters and now the company has created Gwenpool who first appeared in an issue of Howard The Duck (Volume 4 issue 1).  What we have for you guys is issue #0 of Gwenpool which is basically that first issue of Howard The Duck with her in it. Gwenpool has somehow come into Howard’s universe because Black Cat wants him to find her because she stole something that belonged to her. After almost getting killed by Gwenpool, Howard takes her under his wing (pun intended) and convinces her that she has to fix the situation before Black Cat comes back for him. img_7222This was definitely a good starting point for anyone wanting to get to know Miss Gwenpool for sure. They attempted to give her the same magic and fun that we all read in every Deadpool issue in the world by having her tell certain characters that they are in a comic book and an alternate reality. She definitely has her own brand of comedy that they deliver in the issue, but as far as the story is concerned, that part was a plus. I love the back and forth dialogue between her and Howard The Duck (another personal favorite of mine). The artwork is pretty traditional as far as the look of it and I love the fact that one character in the story acknowledged that there is no superhero wearing pink so Gwenpool will be a star. The panels are pretty easy to read and navigate through so you shouldn’t have too much of a problem. As I said before, this is a good starting point for Gwenpool so I look forward to what she and Marvel are going to provide for the future. The first issue also contains the holiday special so check it out for yourself and check out my grades below:

Grades:

Story/Plot: A-

Artwork: A-

Character Representation: A+

Entertainment Value: A
