Batgirl_and_the_Birds_of_Prey_Rebirth_Vol_1_1We are moving right along very smoothly with our Women’s History Month and I said yesterday we have checked out everyone from Spider-Gwen, Gamora, Jessica Jones, Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, Scarlet Witch, The Mighty Thor, and X23. It seems like we are missing some people and one of them is from the DC Universe who is getting her own film directed by Joss Whedon in Batgirl. You can’t have a women’s history month without Gotham’s very own Barbara Gordon. So for today’s issue, I decided to check out the very first issue of the Batgirl and The Birds Of Prey series in the Rebirth issue. In this issue, we learn a little bit about Barbara’s origins in how she became Batgirl all the way to her issue with The Joker and how the Birds Of Prey were started with Black Canary. While on a routine bust, she discovers that someone is using an identity of hers she had when she was in the Birds Of Prey and now she wants to get the band back together to get to the bottom of it. However, it’s not going to be easy! To read more on the issue, just click here to go DC’s website.

JGE5L1fUI thought this was a pretty good comic book even though I’ve never really been a fan of Batgirl. I definitely love the nod they did to the original The Killing Joke story with The Joker and his Hawaiian shirt. I definitely like the fact that they included that in there instead of changing it. This is technically an origin story so you learn a lot about the name Oracle which is thrown around in the story and it’s what has Barbara urked in the story. I definitely liked her sense of humor in the beginning, but I thought things got really good when Black Canary shows up to the party and this new person Huntress definitely makes things interesting for sure. The artwork is pretty good in where it follows this typical formula from DC, but it has almost the same tone as Batman would have. The panels are easy to read and follow along with so you shouldn’t have a problem with that at all. Definitely get invested in this one because good things seem to be coming.
