COMIC TITLE: Silver Surfer #34 (1990)
Ron Lim– Artist
Can you believe that we are one week away from one of the biggest events in Marvel Cinematic history. On April 27, the whole world will witness the Infinity Wars as Marvel releases Avengers: Infinity Wars. For the last couple of weeks we have been building up to this event by covering something from the required reading on Throwback Thursday to get you guys ready as well. Some of the comics that I have covered come from the collected edition Avengers Vs Thanos, but this week we pulled one from the second book in the series, the Silver Surfer: Rebirth Of Thanos. The issue that we are covering is Silver Surfer #34 and it was written by Jim Starlin (Batman: A Death In The Family) and illustrated by Ron Lim (Spider-Man: The Vengeance Of Venom). The story follows the Silver Surfer as he travels through space just looking for a place to rest his head as he has been engulfed in battles for far too long. After he lands on a planet, he falls asleep, but when he awakens things have changed on the planet and he is confused as to whether he is sleeping or not. That is when he witnesses the rebirth of the mad titan.
I really liked this issue the most out of all I have read because it shows a little more relevant material in my view. This is where we get to see the relationship that Thanos has with Death and the seeds are planted for what is about to come to all of the galaxy. This series is apparently where he begins to go on his quest for the Infinity stones if you are wondering where on the timeline this occurs. Unfortunately, we probably won’t get to see much of this in the film due to various locations of characters as far as ownership is concerned. I definitely like the artwork heading into the copper age more than any other age if I am being honest with all of you. I just believe that the artwork is a little more bad ass if that makes any sense. It’s grittier in my opinion and it just looks like the 90’s. Hopefully, you guys have been reading up on your material because I wish I started a lot earlier than I did. Nonetheless, you need to get excited about what is to come next week because it’s going to be epic. I love the story and the artwork so check it out as it was released this week with the True Believers line. Check out my grades below:
