harleyTo this very day, I still believe that the Batman: The Animated Series from the 1990’s is still one of the greatest cartoon series ever released. Not only was it gritty for it’s time, but it also introduced us to Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman, it brought our beloved Mark Hamill back to us as he voiced The Joker, and it introduced us to a character that would that just exploded in Harley Quinn. She became one of the most popular characters without ever stepping foot into a Batman comic book and we loved her. After having a storyline in last years Harley Quinn comic, they have decided to bring it back, but this time it’s a two issue miniseries entitled Harley Quinn: Harley Loves Joker and I have issue one for today. The comic is written by Paul Dini (Batman Adventures: Mad Love) who returns to the characters he carried for years while Bret Blevins (New Mutants) handles the artwork. In this issue, we see that the Joker is very satisfied with the safe house that Harley has provided for them, but what he doesn’t know is at what cost. To make matters worse, she has five days to pay off the proper people or they’ll demolish the place and their’s a new crook in town known as the Grison.

HQLTJ_1_3I believe the comic is a flashback story that looks back at the events that happened and I am curious to know what has happened. I have always been a big fan of Harley Quinn since the animated series and this comic captures her to a perfect T and no wonder with Paul Dini at the helm. Blevins is also a Harley Quinn vet so he knows how to design her on paper that us Harley fans will enjoy. So, I am definitely saying that I enjoyed the artwork tremendously as he did a great job and I love the cover art by Harley Vet Amanda Conner. I also enjoyed what Paul does with the Joker because he seems a little different and in a very tired way almost as if he has been through it all and he’s kind of had enough. I also enjoyed the idea and concept of the Grison and what her story is all about because it adds to Harley’s backstory. If you are a fan of the comic, Harley and Joker, and you want to know what happens next because you followed the last story line then pick this one up. Check out my grades below:

Story/Plot: A+

Artwork: A+

Character Representation: A+

Entertainment Value: A+
