When I arrived at my local comic book shop, I was very surprised at the titles that had been released that I might have missed the first issue when it came out. I was also surprised to see the release of a comic that the previous issue had come out two weeks before. The comic book that I am talking about is The Immortal Hulk #3, but I was very happy to see it and present it to you guys as today’s comic. In the previous issues of The Immortal Hulk, we see that Bruce Banner is not dead after all, but he is controlled by the beast that lies inside him. It’s almost as if the Hulk will not allow Bruce Banner to die and it was proven after Bruce had been shot in a convenience store robbery. After avenging the people that were hurt in the robbery, he moved on from Colorado to Arizona where he runs into a doctor who tried to cure his son with the same Gamma formula that Bruce has been working on. The Hulk made sure that the Doctor wouldn’t infect anyone else with Gamma Radiation. In this comic, four witnesses of an incident involving Hotshot get interviewed by Jackie McGee who seems to be the only one that believes Bruce is alive or is she the only one?
There were a lot of artists that worked on this comic book as well as a lot of inkers and you should see why. They go from the style that we all know from Joey Bennett right into an old school comic book look as well as some other styles in this super cool retro flashback comic. I loved it because it was a nice change to have from the usual one styled comics that we always get. The other thing that was cool about this comic was the writing and particularly the style of the writing which is called The Roshomon Effect. What that is in case you didn’t know is that you get the same story, but told in many different ways from different points of view. I’ve only seen this done in the films, but it was cool to see it done and how they did it. The old woman’s story is probably my favorite as she has a classic Hollywood crush on the perp. This is probably my favorite issue in the whole series and if the ending is any indication of what is to come then I am super excited and ready for it. Check out my grades below:
