STL087678Last week we were introduced to a brand new miniseries from IDW Publishing that features two of the coolest villainy henchmen of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle universe in Bebop and Rocksteady. The comic TMNT Bebop and Rocksteady Hit The Road was released and it was written by Dustin Weaver (TMNT Bebop and Rocksteady Destroy Everything) while Ben Bates (My Little Pony) also wrote and illustrated the whole comic. Int he previous issue, we see that Bebop and Rocksteady have been gone from New York for quite some time and in fact that had been doing a lot of traveling, but it was time for the menacing duo to come home. Of course, they can’t simply just come home, they have to leave a path of destruction along the way which included a showdown with Wingnut and Screwloose which saw them struggle a bit, but something was changing. Bebop and Rocksteady were losing their mutant genes and were slowly turning human again. In issue #2, the duo is still on the run, but this time they look too human to be monsters so they decide that they are going to take a crack at being normal and getting real jobs. We’ll see how long that works out for them.

bebopI am definitely enjoying where they are going with the story because you are seeing the fact that they want to be heroes like the turtles, but it is such a struggle. That is where the true comedy is in this comic book within their struggle to figure out that it’s just not going to work. One thing that is bugging me is I want to know who this Agent Ravenwood character is? At first I thought that she was just an overly sized woman, but now I am seriously wondering what kind of mutant is she? Hopefully, that is going to get answered for us real soon. As far as the artwork is concerned, I said it last week and I’ll say it again this week that I definitely think that Ben Bates definitely captures the cartoonish being of these guys very well with his artwork so it fits for sure. One question, we are all definitely wondering is where do they go from here and what does the end look like? The way this one ended, it’ll be interesting to see where they go in the future issues and who is going to show up in future issues? Stay tuned cause I’m sure we’ll see real soon.
